OVERVIEW
This 285 hour course
takes place onsite as well as offsite. A unique aspect of
this course is that it is ongoing therefore students can start at anytime. It is available in two formats, onsite and distance. We also offer our Diploma
course in Vancouver. What follows is a description of the Onsite Basic course. The distance course is the same with the exception of the 50 hour onsite portion. Some basic courses in Vancouver and outside of Vancouver allow the student to complete the onsite require in an intensive format (5 or 6 days.)
Students attend approximately 1 weekend per month until they reach a total of 50 hours. They also have the
option of continuing to attend sessions after 50 hours at a cost of
$20.00/hour. The onsite sessions will have a strong focus on basic and
advanced hypnotic techniques, counseling skills and other complementary
approaches. There is much focus on the works of Dr. Milton Erickson
as well as a strong practical component. Between onsite sessions students
will be completing the Counseling course at home. This is achieved by
reading "The Skilled Helper" and completing the corresponding
assignments during and after the onsite sessions. Students will view
video DVD's containing further instruction and actual sessions. The Practicum
is the last part of the course. Here the student has an opportunity
under indirect supervision to put their skills to the test. During this
time the student works with 5 clients completing 5 sessions with each
client and videotape 1 session with 1 client as well as other assignments
and an open book exam.
The offsite portion of the course begins when the student receives the course materials which consist of :
- 37 page course manual
- 70 page Video Manual
- 4 DVD's (45 hours of Video)
- Counselling textbook and workbook (purchased separately)
- Therapeutic Trances textbook (purchased separately)
Typically, materials are sent out before the onsite portion begins giving the student an opportunity to start the course when the materials are received.
The student continues working with those materials throughout the
onsite portion and after until he/she completes all of the assignments including a Practicum and submits them for review.
Upon successful completion of the assignments the student receives a certificate from The Orca Institute as a "Resident Hypnotherapist" and upon joining the "International Association of Counseling Hypnotherapists" receives a certificate from the association as as a "Resident Hypnotherapist". The Orca Institute is also an approved school with the American Board of Hypnotherapy and is accredited with the PCTIA
(Private Career Training Institutions Agency of BC.
